Burgess Consulting & Advisory Services

Burgess Consulting Group provides strategic advisory and consulting support to founders and management teams who need clarity, alignment, and disciplined execution.

This work is designed for organizations that have ambition and capability, but are experiencing complexity, misalignment, or stalled momentum. The focus is not on adding more initiatives, but on strengthening foundations so strategy can be executed consistently and sustainably.

How We Work

Burgess engagements are advisory-led and highly customized. We do not offer off-the-shelf solutions or generic training. Each engagement begins with understanding the business context, leadership dynamics, and strategic intent, then designing the right level of support to move the organization forward.

Work may be delivered as a defined project, an advisory engagement over time, or targeted leadership and management support depending on the needs of the business.

Burgess primarily works with founders, owner-led businesses, and management teams within small and medium-sized organizations.

What We Work On

While every engagement is tailored, Burgess advisory work often focuses on areas such as:

  • Strengthening business foundations including purpose, vision, values, and strategic priorities so leadership decisions are clear and aligned.
  • Translating strategy into execution through planning discipline, financial acumen, routines, and accountability mechanisms.
  • Developing leadership and management capability so teams operate with clarity, confidence, and ownership.
  • Designing measurement systems including scorecards, dashboards, and KPIs that make performance visible and actionable.
  • Improving customer and employee experience by aligning behaviors, processes, and expectations across the organization.

This work is as much about focus and discipline as it is about growth.

Engagement Types

Burgess advisory work may be structured as defined projects, ongoing advisory commitments, or embedded leadership support, depending on the needs of the organization. Engagements can range from short-term project work to weekly or monthly advisory support, and in some cases, longer-term partnerships that span a full business cycle or year.

Examples include strategic alignment projects to reset direction and priorities, advisory support to guide execution of growth or change initiatives, and leadership or management development work to strengthen capability during periods of transition.

In some situations, Melanie Lang also works as an interim or fractional leader, supporting organizations that are in start-up mode, navigating transformation, or managing a leadership gap due to transition or leave of absence. In these cases, the role may involve hands-on leadership, decision support, and stabilization while longer-term solutions are put in place.

These examples are illustrative. The structure, scope, and cadence of each engagement are defined through conversation to ensure the support aligns with the organization’s context and objectives.

Ways to Engage

Most engagements begin with a short introductory conversation to understand context, priorities, and fit. From there, support may take the form of focused advisory sessions, project-based work, or facilitated leadership and team engagements. If you’re navigating complexity or change and aren’t sure where to begin, that’s often the right moment to start the conversation.
